Hand Actions
Hit, Stand, Double Down, Split, and Surrender. When and how each action works.
During the Player Turn, action buttons appear based on your hand and the active rule set. Here's what each action does and when it's available.
Hit
Draw one card from the shoe.
- Available whenever your hand total is under 21
- If your hand busts (exceeds 21), the round settles immediately as a loss
- If your hand reaches exactly 21, you auto-stand and the dealer plays
- During a split round, busting or reaching 21 auto-advances to the next hand
Stand
Lock in your current hand total and end your turn.
- In a split round, standing advances play to your next hand
- On your final (or only) hand, standing triggers the dealer's turn
Double Down
Double your bet, receive exactly one more card, then auto-stand.
This is an aggressive move. You're committing to a single card with twice the money on the line.
When available:
- Only on your first two cards (before hitting)
- Your bankroll must cover the additional bet
- Subject to the active double restriction rule:
- Any two cards: double on any hand total (default)
- 9–11 only: double only when your total is 9, 10, or 11
- 10–11 only: double only when your total is 10 or 11
- Allowed after splitting (Double After Split is always enabled)
- Not allowed on split aces
Bankroll Check
Doubling requires enough chips in your bankroll to match the original bet. If you can't cover it, the Double button won't appear.
Split
Split a pair into two independent hands, each with its own bet.
Splitting is available when your first two cards share the same rank (e.g., two 8s, or K-J since both count as 10). Each hand receives one additional card and plays in sequence: Hand 1 first, then Hand 2, and so on.
Key rules:
- A second bet equal to your original wager is deducted from your bankroll
- You can re-split if another matching pair appears, up to 4 total hands
- Each split hand settles independently against the dealer
Multi-hand results are displayed per hand when results are mixed:
H1: Win | H2: Lose | H3: Push
Split Aces
Aces follow special rules when split:
- Each ace receives exactly one card, then auto-stands
- You cannot hit or double on split aces
- An ace + 10-value card after splitting counts as regular 21, not blackjack (pays 1:1 instead of 3:2)
- Re-splitting aces is disabled
Surrender
Forfeit the hand and recover half your original bet.
Surrender lets you cut your losses on a bad hand before playing it out. It's only available on your first two cards in a non-split hand.
Surrender modes (configured in rules):
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| None | Surrender is disabled |
| Late | Available after the dealer checks for blackjack |
| Early | Available before the dealer blackjack check (most player-favorable) |
Coming Soon
Surrender logic is fully implemented in the game engine but the UI button is not yet exposed in the current prototype. It will be available in a future update.
